BA1a Unit 1: Peer Review

Today we completed a peer review, being paired with another student on our course and sent to review their work. I found this very helpful having the chance to see how someone else has interpreted the work that we have received over the weeks and their creativity. Everyone has their own opinions and ideas therefore it was good to see the individuals photographic skill. My partner was very constructive on improvement for my work which didn't offend my only help. I'm glad she was critical because it is exactly what I needed to help me finish the project off.
Here are a few points she made which I found correct & helpful...

LO1: Show an awareness of the fundamental historical, cultural & ethical concepts and principles associated with your subject.
  • More creative development within the project: What is photography?
LO2: Demonstrate the skills required for researching, interpreting and presenting fundamental ideas and theories around your subject.
  • Collect a range of research which will link to my idea. Consider looking at more photographers.
  • Lack of contextual influences around subject practise i.e: background information.
  • Communicate more of your own ideas.
LO3: Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of the materials and processes associated with your subject area.
  • Show some basic photoshop skills & how you get on with the ink-jet printer.
  • Create posts where you show your basic understanding of the camera with the briefs.
  • Annotate contact sheets to show thoughts.

As well as improvements she also commented on my strengths...
  • I can clearly use aperture, shutter speed & ISO to control exposure.
  • Frozen movement image for project 52°39°N is powerful.
  • Workshops look successful & able to pick out mistakes and learn from them.
  • Interesting research and developing ideas through the use of mood boards.
  • Interesting findings for the 12" project with final images visually relate well.
  • Applying photographic visual language.
  • Good amount of information gathered from guest speaker lectures.
  • Clear understanding of camera controls & lighting skills

So far I have made changes/inserted the feedback into my work using what was mentioned by my peer. It has made a great difference in my work and I'm feeling much more confident leading up towards the deadline.
