Lottie Davies

Davies grew up in Surrey and started off as an assistant in London. She got a degree in Philosophy at St. Andrews University in Scotland.
So far she has won an awards for the Association of Photographers' Awards, the International Colour Awards and the Schweppes Photographic Portrait Awards.
Artist & photographer Lottie Davies, is concerned about the stories and personal histories, tales and myths that structure our lives.
Her imagery takes inspiration from classical and modern paintings, cinema and theatre, as well as the imaginary worlds of literature.
As you can see in the image I have chosen to show you of her work, she makes visual connections by looking at peoples 'habits'. She also looked at the notions of nostalgia by evoking a sense of recognition, narrative & movement.

To begin with, Davies was a food photographer. During the jobs she was offered and completed, she decided it wasn't the area she wanted to work in and therefore moved towards travel & journalistic work.
She began her journalistic work in places such as Morocco, Botswana, Syria and many more. As well as her journalistic work, she was also commissioned travel work where she co-operated with corporate & travel magazines.
Davies told us about her trip to Africa where she made a press-trip for the Marie Clare magazine to promote Sainsburys. I was most intrigued by her image of the young African woman carrying a cotton basket.
More commercial work was created called 'Lights in the Street'.
During this commercial shoot, she had help such as a light generator, tree surgeons, three friends to help assist and more.
She had also created a series of fairy tale images for Fortnum & Mason. These were very interesting and full of colour, creating a unique, almost utopia feel, like the pink unicorn for example.
