Personal Work
I photographed a friends wedding back in May last year and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I was asked if I would like to do it for the experience and would be paid a small amount if the images were up to their expectations. Baring in mind I had just completed first year photography with a grade B and still very much the bottomline of an amateur, I took it on.
To start with I photographed the preparation which took place first thing in the morning at one of the brides house. It was a joint wedding which made the job sound even harder but I was very excited to give it a go as it is something I'm looking at doing in the late future.
I used a Nikon D40, manual lens of 18-35mm. Ideally for a wedding I should have bought myself an automatic lens because I needed quick shots where I was wasting a lot of my time making sure the shot was focused. It did ruin a few images for me which I was disappointed about.
I carried on into the registrar of the two couples wedding through to the last part of the evening.
For that she gave me willingly £150. Personally, looking back at the images they are of a poor standard but as for the experience and knowledge of the use of my camera at the time I knew very little.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and it gave me great feedback and lessons which I will know for the next time I may get that opportunity.
My friend gave me back the following feedback:
- A rough list of who I will photograph together for family pictures
- Composition could have been considered more
- Some lovely photos
If I was to return and do it all again, I would certainly make a short, brief list of who I will photograph during family photographs and use a quick, automatic lens.
I certainly would love to do wedding photography in the late future.
Here are a couple photos which I took which are a couple of the ones which I was pleased with.
