W14: Formative Assessment: Pop-up Photo Book Club: Story Telling
As a group we needed to choose two books which were brought out from the library's pop-up photo book club selection which we thought were good examples of different ways of constructing a narrative or evoking a narrative.
The two books we decided to use were Tim Walker, Storyteller, and Joan Fontcuberta, The Nature of Photography.
Within our groups we also needed to make research on these books, such questions were asked:
- What the work was about
- Two pieces of text (for each book) that were written about the photographers work, e.g articles, reviews, etc. The texts needed to be paraphrased/ summarised into our own words (60 word max.)
- What creative decisions did we think add or enhance their story telling? and what are the meanings added or enhanced? Example: size, format, binding, paper, layout, design, etc.
- How does the title of the book and image(s) contribute to our reading of the image(s)?
- What strategies or ideas do we think the photographer applied to the sequence of the images?
Once we had made our research we then placed it into a presentation. We were asked for 8 minutes but unfortunately only completed around 7 minutes. Overall I was pleased with the outcome and was not highly disappointed that we didn't make the 8 minutes because I felt we had enough information present for what we were asked for. The minute could have been made up if we had the first brook present as we were presenting the second book, The Nature of Photography. I felt this helped the audience understand our points made and gave them a viewpoint for themselves.
