Week Twenty Five Technical Workshop: The Lone Ranger rides again.
Brief: As a group use the knowledge that you have of studio practice to produce
two images from each set of lighting codes - conveying innocence, naivety,
and conveying darkness, malevolence, or sinister qualities
Each image is to utilise your choice of location.
This can be changed during the course of the exercise. The subject of the images
is of your choice but should remain consistent.
The close-up portraits are portraying sinister. Smoke was added into frame to enhance the feel which I felt was very effective. The dark shadow casted across her right side is very dramatic which is what you need for that sinister look.
The long shot showing a female walking out of an ally way is also working towards a sinister feel. We lighted the object from the left side so that we could get this silhouette effect. Considering we shot early in the day, the lighting creates this late evening glow, and reading by that it could reflect a bad situation, as these events would typically happen later in the evening as it gets darker. The props used such as the jacket becomes very mysterious as well which I like a lot in the shot. The colours are all very similar and not too bright for the sinister look.
Lastly we needed something more angelic. We felt the pastel colour was vert angelic and could work. It was difficult to light it with an angelic feel due to ambient light being very bright in comparison to our ranger kit. A filter was placed in front of the lens to decrease the amount of light and avoid lens glare.
Now that I've worked with the ranger kit a few times I'm starting to become more confident with them understanding the use of them when working outside with ambient light as well, putting it together and health and safety situations.
