Guest Lecture: Ellen Rogers

Originally interested in fine art, Ellen drifted across into fashion photography. Putting the two together her work is carefully printed and coloured by hand in the darkroom. A lot of the work is thematically based in myth, folklore, religion, literature and their marriage to her life.
Elon has been featured and interviewed in numerous magazines such as i-D magazine, Vice, Dazed And Confused, Glamour and many more.
She is currently working on a project named ‘Gnosis’, a series of photographs and essays on art and spirituality.

It began when i-D magazines key stylist got in touch and displayed Ellen’s work throughout the mag. This was a great start for Ellen to get her work noticed.
Ellen helps herself by blogging about her work, the good and the bad shoots to show her developments and common interest within her own practice. Through blogging, she caught the attention of Katie and Mathew. She produced work with both Katie and Mathew, but found that Mathew dictated a lot of the work which Ellen was unsure about because it was far from the work she would normally create. By discussing the issues with Mathew they began a new project named ‘Final Fantasy’ which was based on a video game Ellen liked to play.

She also shot with Katie and produced work much more to her taste because they both had very similar ideas when photographing.

Within the busyness of it all she realised that she had become lazy with her work after a talk she’d witnessed on the discussion of her missing out the shoes in a fashion shoot.

Unfortunately Ellen had lost her mum in her early 20’s which she wanted to deal with away from the busyness of work. Instead she photographed for her personal use. During her time away she was asked to sponsor Lomography by promoting their photographic equipment which Ellen enjoyed as she could do her own thing.
