Group Crit
This weeks group crit had us all stuck in the middle... with previous briefs being put on hold for the essay and new brief, contextualising your practice, we didn't know where to start.
James began by helping us to decide which competition brief we should pick, by advising us to take images that we want to take rather than go by what the brief wants. That it would be easier to choose as we can see which brief our work would fit into best.
He asked what I liked to photograph in particular and I mostly enjoy landscapes. One thing that he mentioned which I'd never considered was whether I liked photographing landscapes because of the experience, which could possibly be the answer as that is usually the time I get out on my own and I enjoy my own company.
It was recommended to us all to just find images, ideas and in general just absolutely anything that catches our interest. I use Pinterest and pin images to certain boards when I'm collecting ideas for a project or find something of interest or inspirational so that I can refer back to them without having to waste time searching for them.
At the moment I feel Projectshout would fit best with what I have in mind of shooting and experimenting with. I'd like to photograph our environment and from the help of rough cuts experiment physically with the images destroying the landscape to enhance how we destroy our planet. This idea seems to fit similar with Projectshout's brief of Carbon Monoxide to help raise awareness.
This idea is where I will start and hopefully I shall grow from that. Before speaking to James I would have gone with the brief and tried to make work to suit them rather than what suited my interest.
