Cross Course Collaboration: Masterclass Day @ OPEN
I very much enjoyed the day and the opportunities provided for us. I certainly found it useful towards my photographic practice both inside and out of university.
Group Tutorials
Harriet came over and spoke to our group. She viewed our content so far and seemed fairly pleased. However there is still room for improvement therefore she gave us a few points to consider as we're working towards the final piece.
- Place bold words from the voice overs within the moving image piece
- Build up on the narrative within the Instagram feed, i.e. sentimental objects that people might wear
- Ask models to describe themselves using 3 words and place underneath their still within the Instagram feed - this would also feed in with the minimal concept
Bowens Lighting - High Key
We had professionals come in and discuss their success and where they are today which was very interesting to see for a music photographer. It's not an area I have interest in usually however the work he presented I liked very much.
They went on to show us how to photograph in high key. I have found more confidence in using studio lighting from the previous unit but he managed to teach me things I wasn't sure of before. It was also very helpful and great to know that there is in fact a software to help prepare for shoots that involve studio lighting.
East Coast Productions
I found this session extremely helpful as I like to photograph out on location but always end up photographing within the same area instead of touring out. This site will be most helpful in my future practice.
She discussed some very important points to consider when organising projects, especially for us photographers. Below is a list of those points...
- Strong mood board for the team to work from. Without it they won't have much to work from
- Core sheet: health and safety, schedule for the day, etc
- Weather check
- Refer back to mood boards during shoot so you don't fall out of customers preference
- Always be polite, friendly and professional
- When hiring out equipment/ props always keep the labels and take special care
- Be prepared for late comers on schedule, go to the next thing on the list
They have a rate card for the property owners. That way it can be valued through that however they sometimes have the issue of them wanting more than whats offered.
