Contacting a Professional Photographer
Since finishing second year it has been bugging me how I hadn't made any contact with a professional photographer. I knew I had to sort this before going back to university... which I've now left myself just over a month to do so. I had been keeping an eye out for people who I followed on Instagram, but none stood out for me. Until recently when I noticed one photographer whose work I envied. Georgia Ainley known as Georgia Rachael Photography. I needed to work alongside someone whose work I found interesting and an area that I work in myself. I aspire to be a lifestyle photographer capturing weddings and families. Georgia's work was consistent and colourful which I loved. It took me a few days to put together an email because my English is atrocious. I ended up texting my boyfriend each sentence and then getting him to proof read to make sure she could read the email.
So eventually I'd sent off my sweet but short email speaking about myself, complimenting her work and asking if she'd let me assist alongside her. I wasn't expecting a quick reply let alone this email full of information which motivated me. You can see in my email that I'd asked what her best advice was as a lifestyle photographer and anything to consider for a maternity shoot as it is my first. There was no way I could reply with a few sentences I needed to show how grateful I was!
From her communication across the email she seemed lovely and enthusiastic. I honestly felt like I'd known her for years! This is a great start for me, whereas if I'd received a blunt, not so enthusiastic email I can assure you that I would have been put off emailing another. I now want to continue contacting photographers and build my knowledge and contacts.
Below are the emails sent so far...
