Treatment Workshop

Todays session proved very helpful to me as I've never really been shown how to achieve a professional treatment. In the past I've always made one that looks more like a mood board and has no specific plan. I've now learnt that in fact they need to be very specific and especially to win the clients interest you need to be sure.

So... A treatment is your plan. What's your vision and what approach will you take. The treatment will be required by whoever you're working for i.e. client, art director, etc. It is the photographers role to complete a treatment for those clients.
In a treatment there needs to be a concept/ idea of your plan. Visual references showing your own and other artists work. It's important to include your own so that they can see what work you have completed and also what style of practise you work in.
You also need to include:
  • Lighting
  • Location
  • Casting
  • Lens'/ equipment you will use
  • Colours
As well as visual references it also needs to include text so that you're able to define your approach. For example a visual image full of casting, you will need to discuss what it is you like about them i.e. hairstyle, personality, etc.

At the end of the session we put together a quick powerpoint showing how we would put together a treatment. We were given the client information which some had the fishermen advert others had the poncho. We had to choose which we preferred after seeing the powerpoints.
