Workshop with James C: Responding to Job Applications: Recognising Your Skills
By recognising your skills this doesn't necessarily mean all the things you are good at and what you know. It can also be something that you have knowledge of but not enough experience. For example it could be software that you have used once like Photoshop or Premier Pro. Even just the basics. This was useful to know because I have had small practise on software such as Lightroom, Photoshop and Premier Pro but I wouldn't have wrote this within a CV or when applying for a job I would have said no.
Within the session we had to split up into pairs and go through what each job requirement that were specific to that job. I was given the Creative Retoucher. It was difficult because I don't edit my photos and again only have minimal use of Premier Pro, Lightroom and Photoshop. With each job requirement we also had to give an example instead of just answering yes and no. From going to university a lot of the questions could be answered with an example, such as collaboration, time management and working to a budget. James said that we had something even better than working to a budget because we manage to shoot with no budget where we make use out of what we have instead of buying (for most of us anyway!).
After we had discussed the job requirements between the pairs we had to go up against each other and try to win the job. The rest of the students and James would have to ask us questions from the job requirements for us to answer.
James will be sending us the list of job sites and recommends we sign up. I do plan on doing this and visiting the workshops to help update my CV. This session was very helpful.
EDIT: Here are the jobs sites. I should sign up to the appropriate sites. They will give me information on the type of paid employment available with the skill set I have developed during the course. This will also help my research into careers.
