Seminar: Bibliography & Appendices

When putting together a bibliography from my research, it doesn't necessarily have to be everything that I have written about within the text. As long as it has informed my thinking or practice then I should be putting it in.
Within todays session we were given 3 sheets, the first was to list the top 5 criteria in order of importance when we are choosing our research sources. In my pair we wrote down...

1. Web-design/quality of content
We felt this was most important for the both of us. It is certainly something I look at first when looking up an artists work. If the design is overwhelming with colour or featuring childish animations then already I believe they are not serious about the content. Something with a more professional finish, such as a white background, black text and clear showings of where I will find relevant topics is something I am more drawn to. However just because the website looks good doesn't mean the information is true which is why the quality of content is also important.

2. Voice
As I mentioned quality of content, the voice feeds in with this. The text may read professionally but is it true? Therefore if a well known writer/practitioner has written the information I am more likely to believe what they have written than I would for a name I have never heard of before and don't have a lot of information about themselves online.

3. Academic Writing
When I'm reading the text I like to read something that is of a professional standard but so that I can still understand it. I've read many books where I've lost interest very quickly because I don't know the meaning of any of the words. However this is also a sign that it has obviously been professionally written.

4. Readership
So we check the Facebook profiles of some of the sources Ross had given to us, such as BJP ShowStudio, etc. We were quite surprised to see low readership for some of the well known sources. However I suppose this cannot be determined just by Facebook as not everyone uses Facebook or may not have liked the page who use it. But this is something important to consider because obviously the more people they have viewing their online sources determines it's popularity and whether or not the source is reliable.

5. Date created (Recent or old information)
Lastly we felt the date of the content published on their website was really important too. Some of the content on the sites we researched was either a few months old or few years. The more recent ones would be preferable as long as the following criteria met with it.

Here are the following sources Ross provided for us to use against our criteria. We didn't manage to get very far filling in the sheets however I want to record the ones which I hadn't heard before for future reference...
