A reflection on my performance throughout the unit
How well am I managing my time?
Am I doing as much as I should? If not, why not?
Like I mentioned in the first question I believe I have done better this year in comparison to the previous years, but there's always rooms for improvement. I know there was far more opportunities for me to do work and develop my project further than I have. However I am getting better with my time management and from finding more interest and motivation within my image making it's made it easier for me to make work. I tend to get distracted easily and find myself lacking motivation which has and always will let me down within myself.
What things are standing in my way?
My lack of motivation and social life tends to stand in my way sometimes. I would rather be out enjoying time with friends and family than completing my work but I usually say to myself that Sundays are my day off as long as I get enough work done within the week. Some Sundays when I have no plans I will sit and do my work but even then I will put the TV on and forget. Obviously it is good to have a break from work though, but only when deserved.
Do I have too many commitments outside of university?
No I don't think I do. I try to see a lot of my friends and family within the week, especially my grandmother which I have been incorporating within my recent project. This has benefited me slightly and enabled me to complete more work than I would normally. I work every Saturday which is my only commitment. I made sure that when I started university that I had my hours set so I knew what time I have available to have a social life and get work done.
Are you procrastinating or being lazy?
I would say that it is a bit of both. I will begin to do work, get distracted and end up losing motivation completely to continue with it. However when I find motivation I try to stick to it as long as possible and have managed to produce some good work in both image making and written work throughout this unit.
What am I going to do to address this?
I could experiment with reminders. Yes take a break, but give myself so long and the return back to the work. Find ways that will help motivate me by sitting at university in a quiet study place without any distractions. Lot's of previous students and current students recommend doing this and found that they got a lot more work done.
What help do I need to achieve this? Who can you use to help you with this?
As I'm still not 100% sure what direction I want to work towards I will make sure, especially within the new year, that I see Sebastian regularly to get guidance and support with my career path. I can also take advantage of my tutors and speak to them about it but also speak to those already in the profession and ask how they got there, what inspired them and any advice I should take.
In all honesty, I believe I have managed my time far better than I have with the previous projects in year 1 and 2. However I still think I could have done more with the time that I've had throughout BA3a. I've managed to stay up-to-date with my visual logbook and reflective journal but in terms of shooting instead of planning it 1/2 times per week I had the chance to do it 3/4 times a week. I was photographing a subject that was always available and at their house so I had plenty of opportunities.
Have I planned my time in order to ensure I can complete all of the work required?
I was told time and time again to write down a plan to make sure I complete everything within the time that I have. I never wrote down any plan of action but I knew that I wanted to make sure that my final images and visual logbook was complete ready for when I get back in January. As I'm writing this I feel confident about the submission in January. My research report is pretty much all I need to focus on now.
Do I know all of the work I need to complete?
Yes, I have made checklists to ensure I put everything that I need in relevance of my work into my visual logbook and reflective journal. I have also double checked the deliverables and tasks of the current project and research report to make sure I don't miss anything out.Am I doing as much as I should? If not, why not?
