Lecture with James S
To begin with we were congratulated on our results from BA3a. I wasn't too pleased with my results, I thought I had done a lot better than that but I will improve on what I failed on and try harder for BA3b. With that James mentioned what he noticed a lot of people was missing, which was industry engagement. I knew myself that I hadn't added a lot of industry into my reflective or visual logbook. Only small amounts which I think is what let me down the most, and my research report. We have been provided with a powerpoint to make sure we had in this information for BA3b.
We went through BA3b and the requirements within the learning objectives. They seem pretty simple but I need to make sure that I check through these regularly and thoroughly as I work through the project.
LO7 is about industry engagement. I can make note of this within my reflective journal and visual logbook. I need to focus on whats current and emerging rather than the past. What employment is out there relevant to my practice or interest, what will I do after I finish university. After Mondays seminar using filling out a sheet on strategy this can feed into my planning.
LO8 is critical engagement with current practice, both my own and the work of others which applies to my own. One big issue within my current practice is the boundaries that I need to consider when photographing my family. Both how I photograph them and the emotions that may distress them when I make the work about the loss of my mother. Already I can be making note of these things within my visual logbook as it is something that I will need to consider before every shoot that involves my family or anyone else that I intend to photograph.
Skipping to LO12 I need to show evidence of a professional approach within my work. Presenting it on media platforms such as Instagram or a paid website. I have recently updated my website both paid for and re-assembled. I would also say that I am already up-to-date with Instagram. I regularly post and present my best work carried out. If I decide I don't want to do photography after I finish university then I need to show evidence of what it is that I will do next and the planning for that. I need to show other career routes if so.
James said to evaluate our performance each week. I think this would be good for myself to do because I have my moments where I become lazy and procrastinate. By evaluating my performance each week I can see where I am going wrong. For example shoots I want to achieve 2/3 per week but if I drop to one then I can make sure this doesn't become a continuous thing throughout the rest of the year.
Again I need to complete a skills audit. It's quite interesting to create one each unit to see what I have learn't and what else I need to improve each time.
