Exhibition
I can't believe I am so close to the end now. It only feels like yesterday that I received a place at NUA! Now I am down to the last few months and I want to get it right. Yes I am half-hearted about whether I do or don't want to continue with photography after university, but it doesn't mean that I won't continue to try my best. Like they say a degree still looks really great on a C.V. for any other job that I apply for. I don't think I will ever completely put down the camera though after university no matter on my decision... I have always loved taking photos on my phone and enjoy using film cameras. I may just continue taking photos for personal use and for a small fee when friends and family want pictures taken. I still have some time to make my decision but I just need to take full advantage of everything that I have offered to me right now! Such as the MRC, Sebastian, the tutors and the library.
So, exhibition planning has started and I chose to be in the publicity group. None of the others really appealed to me and I love putting things together so this was the one for me. We got everyone in a group chat and said that we needed to put ourselves into smaller groups working on individual things to get the ball rolling. A poll was set up on the Facebook page that I created and everyone had to choose which part of publicity they wanted to take on.
We had several options:
I originally opted to do the catalogue, but I could see many people had already picked that and the others were empty. Out of the other options I thought postcards sounded like something I would like to do. Only one other person had chosen it at the time. I also felt with the group being bigger that I wouldn't be given as much to do or sort out. Therefore picking something which I thought less people would pick would give me the chance to do more and be included in everything to do with it. I am really pleased with the group that we have for postcards and glad that I can work with people without feeling like my opinion doesn't matter or they thing there idea is better. Things like this can become difficult when individuals like to take over. I don't feel like anyone will be taking over in our group and everyones voice will be heard. I am very much looking forward to getting started and seeing the outcome of what the publicity team puts together!
Besides our smaller groups which we have created group chats for, the Facebook page is where we can discuss which each group are doing so that everyone is still getting involved with everything that is going on. When we have some ideas for the postcards we can share with the rest of the publicity team and see what they think. This goes for all the other individual groups. It has also been handy for us to do the polls in. We also suggest using a Facebook page so that everyone can keep up to date with what's going on without having to scroll through the chat. Being such a large group and if people are unable to check the chat there and then they may not want to scroll all the way up and miss out on whats happening.
The postcard group had a discussion during Mondays lecture getting rough ideas on what we need to sort first and how we will go about it. We wanted to know where these postcards will be going, how many we may need, what details we need and whose images were going to be seen. The postcards are pretty much a business card for each individual who are showing at the Free Range exhibition. They are obviously slightly larger and show a bit more of what that person photographs.
To begin with, we need to find quotes from different sites to find our best match. Then we need to sort out a budget with James S.
I picked up some postcards from Metro when we visited for the printing workshop. They were minimalistic, clean and clear of information. The image took the majority of the space up on the front, a small white boarder around the edge of it then was filled in with small detail of the persons work or place with some more detail on the back. I think the best thing to do is be minimalistic because we don't want colours interfering with peoples images.
