Why would I do an MA?
Down to the last 4 months of my time at NUA, however it doesn't have to stop there. The option of an MA is open and before I went to the workshop I knew for definite that I was going to leave it at a BA (Hons). I am now thinking whether an MA would help me find who I am as a photographer because I feel I have yet to find out. I feel more confident making work now than I did when I first started, definitely! But I am worried for my future and I would be disappointed to spend 5 years in education studying photography to then walk away and not use it. I know I will always take photos because it is something that I have always loved to do since I was a kid. Using a cheap digital camera or my mobile I'm constantly taking pictures of the sky, family, food and whatever else that catches my interest! I often put myself down and believe I am not good enough, so I wonder whether an MA would help to build that confidence.
The course can be full-time or part-time depending on what I want to do. It becomes more independent but just like it is now the teachers are always available for help. It sounds better because it is a smaller group of students to work with so you're time with them becomes more available.
Some previous MA students came in to give their opinions. One said that it helped them to figure out who they were as a photographer. They new what they wanted to photograph but couldn't understand why? She soon discovered her love for science and taking pictures of science rolled into one. Another felt that they found who they were as a photographer too late in their 3rd year and wanted to explore it more in the MA. With an MA you're able to build your vision from where you leave off in. It does sound like a good option for me at the minute...
