Exhibition selection with Carol Sharp and John Wilson

I had completed the proposals in time for the selection this week however I wasn't confident about the ideas that I had put forward. For the Free Range exhibition I had planned to print 10ft onto the Hahnemuhle Photo Rag paper, which would be hanging on a roll and from a baton. The idea sounded great when James S mentioned it because I felt it would fit in with the context of my documentary  work which is quite delicate. For it to hang down it could represent that. However when I brought the idea forward to Carol and John they actually felt it wasn't enough. It's hard to show a documentary project using just one image so they advised me to throw in the majority from my previous year 3 project. At first I wasn't so sure as of spacing, however James C said I could work between A3/4 and 5 and mix the sizes about and see what works best for the amount of images I would like to present. Now that they have mentioned that I think it would look more interesting and would probably draw more attention to my work. With the majority of people showing large prints, for mine to be a lot smaller it will stand out.
Here is an image of their idea. As I mentioned earlier I just need to work out sizes but printing onto the cheapest paper and using a large white space to plan it out. I will need some help and advice to do this as there is a variety of images, and which some should definitely be bigger than others within that selection.

James C mentioned looking at the exhibitions Tillman has put on and see how he has laid out his work similar to how I am planning mine. https://www.maureenpaley.com/exhibitions/wolfgang-tillmans-6?image=5 I found an exhibition of his from 09 June - 07 August 2016. It was his 8th solo exhibition at Maureen Paley's gallery. It featured new and previous unseen work of his that focuses on the visible and invisible borders that define and sometimes control us. Below are images from his exhibition taken from the website.

The first images shows a variety in sizes of the smaller scaled images. I believe this is what James C meant when getting me to experiment with A3/4&5. I think the images would work better in varied size to show importance with perhaps the portrait of my grandmother and the important items such as the shirt and where she sleeps. As for the second image I like the large prints against the same sized prints. However I like the placement of them, close together but areas of space for people to take in the photos.

The idea before we came to a decision was to keep the idea that I had for the NUA exhibition but adding in a couple of extra images to add context. Below is the idea that they came up with. I originally planned to have the first 3 by themselves at A2. I mentioned that the images to the right were only saved as JPEGs so I wasn't sure whether I could get them as big as the others. However they thought about keeping them smaller than the larger prints so that it draws the viewer in seeing that there is writing which they would go up close to read. They mentioned that the small scale with the text and images would add to the delicateness of the project.

After much discussion I have been sent away to see what space I have in order to choose sizes of the images. I am really happy with the idea and hope that when I plan it out that it will work and look great! Originally I planned on having large scale images just because everyone else seemed to do it and I hadn't gave it much thought. Now I'm very glad that I am having smaller scale images and believe it will create a much more personal, delicate approach for the viewers to understand a bit more about.
