Portfolio Planning: images and sequencing

I needed to speak with some ASAP before I started to spend time soft proofing and printing. I managed to speak with James S and Ross about my selection for the portfolio and how I should sequence them. I have work from BA2b, BA3a and BA3b which I would like to put into my portfolio. However I am not sure whether BA3b present my strongest work so I wanted to see whether I would be able to use around 18 images in my portfolio if I wanted to.

I spoke to James first and he went through my current images selecting the ones with potential. He showed me some of the things to consider editing before printing but thought that they worked with the other images.
I then spoke with Ross. I asked about sequencing and he said not to worry too much. By all means sequence it but remember that with it being in a box the viewer can look at the images in any order they wish. However I should probably sequence them than to place them in any order. I think it would be best to place them in order of date of completion, as it works better in the sense of producing a narrative for the viewer and seeing what the project is about. I would start with the image and text in BA2b, followed by BA3a with the project based on my grandmother and finished with my current project which goes back to my mother, myself and my family. My best work is certainly BA3a which I believe by putting it in the middle will hold the attention of the viewer for longer as a narrative starts to unfold. I will need to select the best of BA2b to begin the portfolio and the best image from BA3b to end the portfolio on.
I told Ross that there may be a printing issue with BA2b as the prints are only saved as JPEG's. However he said that these may work better if I was to print them small anyway because they are text and personal messages. It could link in with the concept. Also when I'm printing my images consider the size of the boarder. I could print A4 but have a large boarder making it up to A3. The smaller images with large boarders will draw the audience in and with it being a personal project could work effectively. To help me sequence and choose image size/layout I have been advised to print onto A4 paper and see which works best for me.
With the images that I have selected so far for my portfolio I need to make sure that there is a balance. There was one image from BA3a which is a white background with a small photo in the middle. If I intend on placing this into the selection then I need to add in the other image with a white background otherwise it will stand out and feel apart from the rest of the images. Also if I am adding in images from my current project I need enough of them to balance it out too. Not just a couple but several at least.

I then asked for some help on my current work and whether Ross had any artists to recommend that I looked at. He gave me a few which were really helpful as I haven't looked at anyone specific for my subject matter.
Mathew Paul Finn - Mother, Celine Marchbank - Tulips and New Project, Jim Mortram and Camera Lucida Roland Barthes - the book. From looking at these check for any interviews they may have done and perhaps email them, especially Celine for any advice.
